Adult Continuing Education
The Board recognizes that education is a lifelong process. Therefore, the Board of Education shall establish and maintain a program of adult education classes in accordance with Connecticut General Statute 10-69, as well as, a program of continuing education classes to serve civic, cultural, vocational and avocational needs of the community.
The Superintendent is directed to establish regulations concerning fees and free programs in the adult continuing education program. No tuition shall be charged to residents who enroll in adult classes for elementary and high school completion, Americanization and United States Citizenship, and English for adults with limited English proficiency.
The adult education program is open to all residents 17 years and over. Residents attending classes for elementary and high school completion must not be attending any public or private elementary, middle or senior high schools. The District shall grant an adult education diploma to those adult education program participants who have satisfactorily completed the minimum credits as defined by Connecticut General Statute 10-69.
A program of continuing education courses may be offered when the number of interested adults is sufficient to form a class and when a qualified teacher, adequate facilities, and appropriate supervision can be made available.
