We are so happy to announce that one of Spring Glen's amazing teachers, Jen Pohl, has just been named as the Outstanding Elementary School Special Educator of 2020 by the CT PTA! It's wonderful to have such great news - especially given the challenging times we all face. Congratulations Jen!
In this, their 100th anniversary, the CIAC (CT Interscholastic Athletic Conference) is selecting the top 50 high school basketball players in Connecticut history (25 boys and 25 girls). Selections are made strictly on the player's high school career, not necessarily on their later accomplishments in college and/or pro ball. Five boys and 5 girls will be named each week, for 5 weeks.
Scott Burrell (HHS Class of '89) was the first player honored for this legendary 'team!'
Among Scott's accomplishments as a Hamden High Dragon:
- 2-time All-State
- Finished career with 1,326 points and 1,022 rebounds
- Senior year: 23.7 points, 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 4.8 blocks per game
- 1989 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year
After high school, Scott continued to show his skills - as a star player at UCONN (his number "24" hangs from the walls at Gampel Pavillion) as being the first American athlete to be a first round draft-pick of two major sporting organizations (the NBA and MLB). Scott even won an NBA championship while playing for the Chicago Bulls!
Scott is currently the Coach of SCSU's Men's Basketball team.
Each year, two of the highest-achieving students from each state are selected as delegates to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), which is held in Washington, D.C. every March. We are THRILLED that Hamden High School Senior Mariam Khan was just notified that she has been selected to represent Connecticut in 2020! What a great honor!!!
And did we mention that in addition to representing Connecticut in the USSYP and other benefits and experiences, Mariam will receive a $10,000 college scholarship! Congratulations Mariam!
