Trinity Jones, a 2nd grade student at Church Street School, earned a Social Justice Warrior award to raise awareness about Juneteenth and have it recognized as a federal holiday. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th and many African Americans celebrate it as their Independence Day (Emancipation Day - the end of slavery).
Trinity recorded two songs with UmoJamz to honor traditions celebrated for this holiday and participated in a Kickstarter campaign that funded the UmoJamz' Juneteenth Virtual Block Party that was shared with Church Street students.
Hamden Public Schools is proud of Trinity's example of how a young person can promote social justice in her community! Keep up the great work.
