Teacher of the Year 2017

Lynn Economopoulos!

Congratulations to Helen Street Elementary teacher Lynn Economopoulos- Hamden's 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year!

Lynn Economopoulos, better known as "Ms. Lynn" to her students, grew up in Wallingford, CT and attended Central Connecticut State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.  Ms. Lynn started her career in Nevada as a paraprofessional and then became a teacher for children with severe disabilities. She moved back to Connecticut in 2012.  After spending four years at Alice Peck Learning Center as a K,1,2 IIC teacher she has recently transitioned her program to Helen Street School.  Ms. Lynn and her team of paraprofessionals work hard to provide an effective and meaningful education that prepares their students for the world outside of education.

The Hamden Teacher of the Year honor is an annual award. Teachers in each school nominate and select from their staff one exemplary teacher, who then "competes" among other schools' nominees in front of a district panel.  The committee then makes the final selection for our Teacher of the Year.

The Hamden Teacher of the Year represents our district at the state-level Teacher of the Year competition.
