9221 - Filling Vacancies

Any vacancy occurring on the Board, unless otherwise provided by charter or special act, shall be filled by a vote of the remaining members of the Board until the next town election.  All vacancies filled by election by the Board of Education shall be filled by a person of the same political party or affiliation as that of the person who just vacated the office. 

Such vacancies will be formally announced to the Board at one of its next regularly scheduled meeting.  The vacancy is to be filled within an appropriate period of time, not to exceed two months from the date for the announced vacancy.  The vacancy will be filled by majority vote of all members of the Board of Education present and the action shall be recorded in the minutes of that meeting.
