Number of Members 

The Hamden Board of Education consists of nine (9) members who are elected for staggered four (4) year terms.  No more than six (6) members shall be from the same political party.  The Mayor shall be an ex-officio member without voting right.

Term of Office 

The term of office of a school board member shall be for four years.  Members shall take office at twelve noon on the last Sunday of November.  Before entering upon their official duties, members of the Board of Education shall take the oath of office before the Town Clerk or duly authorized official.
