Hiring of Certified Staff

It is the policy of the Hamden Board of Education (the “Board”) to appoint the most qualified applicants to positions of employment within the Hamden Public Schools.

The Board shall be responsible for the appointment of the Superintendent. 

The Board shall also be responsible for the appointment of the Assistant Superintendents and the Chief Operating and Financial Officer, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, provided that the Board renders a decision upon the Superintendent’s recommendation within ten calendar days of being notified of such recommendation.  The Superintendent’s recommendation shall include the rationale for selecting the proposed candidate.  If the Board does not render a decision within this time period, the Superintendent is authorized to appoint the recommended candidate to the position.

The Superintendent of Schools shall be responsible for appointments to all other positions requiring a certificate issued by the State Board of Education.

All such appointments shall be made in accordance with the procedures set forth in Section 10-151 of the Connecticut General Statutes, and in accordance with any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
