Magnet School and School Choice Opportunities

Hamden residents have options for their children to attend magnet schools, both within Hamden and surrounding school districts (see "School Choice" below).  All magnet schools require applications for admission, and a few have additional admission requirements. Contact each school for more information.

Below is a list of magnet schools open to students in Hamden:

REGIONAL AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION CENTERS (The centers prepare students for careers in the environmental, natural resources and agriculture fields. The program is hands-on and combines rigorous academics, occupational skill development and a work-based component.)

School Choice

The School Choice program allows Connecticut students to attend public schools in nearby cities or towns. Enrollments are offered by school districts on a space-available basis in grades K-12.  Lotteries are used to place students when there are more applications than spaces available.
Connecticut schools offer a range of educational programs to meet the diverse needs and career aspirations of its students and include comprehensive local schools, regional vocational-technical schools, vocational agriculture centers, charter schools, and magnet schools. All these programs serve to prepare students for college, the workplace and active citizenship. The options for Hamden students are listed above.

It is the mission of Hamden Public Schools to ensure all our students learn to the best of their potential each and every day they are entrusted to our care.
