High School Diploma Programs 

Hamden Adult Education offers three routes to earn a high school diploma.

Adult High School Credit Diploma Program

Adult High School

Adults who are officially withdrawn from school and did not complete their high school education have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma by attending class and accumulating the required number of credits.

Classes are offered in English, Math, Social Studies, Civics, and Science on Tuesday through Thursday evenings. Credits previously earned are transferable.

Additional credits may be earned for work experience, occupational license, apprenticeship training, formalized job training, military service, independent study, community service and by completing courses online that are provided by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium. The Adult High School also collaborates with Gateway Community College for additional credit options.

GED Exam

The GED exam is given at multiple locations throughout the State of Connecticut. It consists of tests in the following areas: lalnguage arts/writing, language arts/reading/ math, science, and social studies.

Go online to www.ged.com and setup an account.  Then you will need to go to the Adult Education office at Hamden High School or Adult Education office at Keefe Community Center prior to registering for the exam.  For more information call 203-407-2028 or 203-773-9211 ext. 1139.

GED Preparation

Do you want to study for the GED exam? You will work on five required areas of study: math, science, literature and the arts, writing skills, and social studies. You will take practice tests. Instruction will be individualized where possible.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

The National External Diploma Program is an alternate route to earning a high school diploma. Students are expected to demonstrate a number of life skills through several tasks. Each condidate must also demonstrate an individual skill in an occupational, academic, or specialized area.
