Smarter Balanced Assessment Report Notice:
Students who took the Smarter Balanced assessment in Hamden in spring 2018 received their Individual Student Reports on September 21 with the exception of current 9th graders.
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) notified school districts of an issue with one item that was included in the spring administration of the grade 8 math assessment. In order to remedy the problem the CSDE will not count item performance for this one item and will rescore all tests for grade 8 students who received the item. As a result, all Individual Student Reports for last year's grade 8 students are being corrected and new reports will be shipped to districts in late October.
The CSDE apologizes for the inconvenience and has assured districts that additional measures will be implemented in the future to guarantee this does not occur again.
Excellence and Sustainability: Exploring Options for Hamden's Public School System
The Hamden Board of Education and administration are exploring options to ensure a sustainable and strong educational system for Hamden's children. We've created a Webpage to share information and updates about this initiative. (Check back often for updates.) Community information sessions are being planned and will be scheduled soon, for mid-September.
Results Are In: Your Thoughts About School Reorganization in Hamden
As many of you know, the BOE is very interested in gathering input from our community members about our reorganization effort. An online tool called ThoughtExchange allowed us to collect your thoughts/ideas and let us know how you felt about other people's ideas as well. The BOE and administration are still reviewing the comments, but we've created a summary sheet with the results of our ThoughtExchange to share with the community. Additional information will also soon be available.
