Health

This unit is an introduction to our Health course. 

It includes Icebreakers -- where our teachers begin to get to know our students-- as well as a discussion of the Dimensions of Health, and the units we will be covering throughout the course.

In this unit, we will be exploring emotional maturity and stress management.

In this unit, we will be discussing:

• Friendship;
• Communication & Listening;
• Conflict Resolution;
• Sexual Harassment;
• Internet Safety;
• Bullying & Cyberbullying;
• How to be an Upstander vs. a Bystander.

During this unit, students explore:

• Suicide Risk Factors;
• Warning Signs;
• Available resources for people who are-- or for those who know someone who is-- struggling with suicidal thoughts.

This unit explores the health risks and negative emotional and physical side effects of:

• Tobacco;
• Vaping;
• Alcohol;
• Marijuana;
• and others.

In this unit, the following topics will be discussed:

• the Endocrine System;
• Changes during Puberty;
• Reproduction;
• Sexual Abstinence;
• Contraception;
• STIs & HIV.

In this unit, students will learn about:

• Nutrients;
• How to read food labels;
• Nutrition-Related Diseases;
• Eating Disorders.

In this unit, students will discuss simple actions they can take on a daily basis in order to keep themselves safe. 

This unit will review the importance of sun safety (wearing sunscreen, hats and sunglasses when outside), and other daily safety measures they should take, such as wearing helmets, seatbelts, etc.
