Welcome Letter from Principal Gannon
Welcome to the 2022-23 academic school year at Hamden High School.
Since 1935, Hamden High School has stood as a proud landmark in town- one that represents opportunity, tradition and excellence. For so many generations of students, Hamden High School is also a personal symbol of enduring friendships and fond memories.
Today, we continue these traditions as a school family that supports each student through a meaningful, purposeful and rigorous learning experience. The staff at Hamden High School is fully committed to assisting all students in thinking critically, acting honorably and living passionately.
Our goal is for students to graduate with the knowledge and confidence needed for both their personal fulfillment and the betterment of their communities. Their voice, reflection and perseverance are integral pieces in becoming global citizens that can effect positive change in our world. Hamden High continues to be the first step for our students as they embark on that important journey.
Thank you for sharing your students with us, and please know it is truly an honor to serve as your principal.
Hamden High Core Values
We aspire to educate students in a rigorous, diverse and supportive learning environment. All students at Hamden High School are challenged to become socially, culturally and globally aware as well as civically active and productive. Our students will demonstrate responsible personal behaviors and achieve self-reliance in order to obtain college/career readiness skills. Our students are further expected to be caring and productive individuals who are resilient and resourceful problem solvers. We believe students learn best when they are given real-world learning opportunities, and when adults work collaboratively to ensure a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
Our Program
Hamden High School is an accredited four-year public high school located in Hamden, Connecticut. We are a comprehensive high school that serves a diverse student body of more than 1700 students. Our goal is to meet the educational needs of each student. The school strives for excellence in all areas and believes that effective education is the result of a strong partnership with the families of its students.
Hamden High's program of study is designed to provide each student with a world-class learning experience. The wide range of learning opportunities offered exceeds many other comprehensive high schools in the state and allows students to work with school personnel and their parents/guardians to develop a course of study that most appropriately meets their needs. In addition to required course offerings, students may choose from a vast selection of electives. Classes meet daily on an eight period schedule. (see bell schedule below)
House Information
To personalize the high school experience, Hamden High School is structured around a house system. Each house is under the direction of an assistant principal, who is also referred to as the House Principal. Students are alphabetically assigned to one of four houses - each with its own administrator, guidance counselors, and support professionals who provide direct service to the students. In additional to these members, a school nurse and/or school psychologist also provide assistance. All 9th grade students are assigned to one house, the Quinnipiac House.
Each House Principal maintains an office located apart from the Main Office of the school. Concerns regarding lockers, tardiness to school or class, discipline issues, early dismissal from school or other similar concerns should be addressed to the appropriate house office.
Accreditation
Hamden High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering post-graduate instruction.
Accreditation of an institution by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group view process.
