At a Special Board of Education meeting on February 23, 2023, the Hamden Board of Education approved the Superintendent's proposed budget of $100,380,559. See the approved budget here.

2022-2023 Budget 

2022-23  Legislative Council BOE Approved Budget

On Tuesday, June 14, the Board of Education approved their 2022-23 Budget. 

On May 14, 2022, the superintendent presented the 2022-23 BOE Budget to the Legislative Council.

2021-22 Budget Process

The Legislative Council reviewed the Board's budget at a hearing on March 24, 2021. Superintendent Jody Goeler, Board of Education Chair Arturo Cabello-Perez and Chief Operating and Financial Officer Tom Ariola described the budget to the Council members and answered their questions. The Legislative Council held a public hearing on the budget on March 31.

Mayor Leng presented his budget to the public and Legislative Council on March 17. The Mayor's budget included a $1,500,000 increase for our public schools.

On March 9, 2021, the Board of Education approved a budget of $92,820,405 for the 2021-22 school year operating budget. View the 2021-22 BOE Approved Budget (Budget Book).

In multiple meetings in February 2021, the Board of Education's Finance Committee met multiple times to review and discuss the Superintendent's proposed budget for the 2021-22 school year.

2020-21 Budget

On Saturday, May 16, 2020, the Hamden Legislative Council met to discuss and decide on funding for Hamden Public Schools for the 2020-21 school year. The Council members received and reviewed a presentation on the Board of Education's approved budget. You can view Superintendent of Schools Jody Goeler's opening remarks.

After five hours of discussion, the Legislative Council decided to allot funds far less than the Board of Education had requested, "level-funding" education (providing no additional funding over last year), and in addition, taking as town revenue $700,000 in funds from state grants designated for education. This total allocation from the Legislative Council will necessitate $2.8 million in reductions districtwide.

On March 4, 2020, the Hamden Board of Education held a Special Meeting to review and vote on the upcoming budget. After discussion and a presentation by Director of Operations and Finance Tom Ariola, the Board unanimously approved the budget for 2020-21 school year. This budget will now be sent to the Mayor's office for consideration, as he prepares his town-wide budget for the Legislative Council to consider.

On March 28, 2019, the superintendent presented the 2019-20 BOE Approved Budget to the Legislative Council.

2018-19 Budget

The final 2018-19 Budget was approved by the Hamden Legislative Council in late Spring, 2018. View a copy of the Approved 2018-19 Hamden Public Schools Operating Budget.

On March 8, 2018, the Hamden Board of Education (BOE) approved their 2018-19 BOE Budget.  This budget was then sent to the Mayor for consideration as he developed the Town Budget. On March 15, 2018, the Mayor presented his proposed budget, which allocates $2,170,334 less for Education than the BOE's approved budget.

After numerous public hearings and considerable discussion and deliberation, the Legislative Council decided to add $1.25 million to the mayor's proposed budget for education. Although the mayor could have vetoed this addition, he did not, so the Council's budget will go into affect on July 1, 2018. In summary, the BOE adopted budget request amounted to $88,520,000. The Council allocated $87,600,000. While the Council-approved allocation increases educational expenditures by $3,100,000 or 3.67% over 2017-18, it is $920,000 less than the Board's adopted budget. Therefore, cuts will still need to be made to meet the total funds available.

2017-18 Budget

On Thursday, February 16, 2017, the Hamden Board of Education (BOE) approved their 2017-18 Budget. 

On March 21, 2017, Superintendent of Schools Jody Goeler presented the BOE Approved Budget to the Hamden Legislative Council, and explained the possible impact of adopting the Mayor's Proposed Budget. View Superintendent Goeler's presentation.

The Legislative Council approved a Board of Education budget of $84,500,000. View FY2017-2018 Legislative Council Adopted BOE Budget.

2016-17 Budget

On February 29, 2016, the Hamden Board of Education approved the 2016-17 operating budget. The approved budget totals $85,826,552, representing a 3.26% increase over last year's approved budget. 

Superintendent Goeler presented his 2016-17 proposed budget to the Board of Education on January 26, 2016. The proposed budget totals $86,093,676, representing a 3.58% increase over the previous year. Approximately 95% of the increases included in the proposed budget are non-discretionary.

In May 2016, the Hamden Legislative Council approved a Board of Education budget of $84,008,995.

2015-16 Budget

The total budget for Hamden Public Schools that was approved by the Hamden Legislative Council for 2015-2016 is $83,120,625, and includes staffing, instructional programs and materials, equipment, building operations expenses (gas, electricity, maintenance/repair, water, telecommunications) transportation and other miscellaneous expenses. 2015-2016 Legislative Council Adopted BOE Budget
