The Student of the Month program is meant to promote success in and out of the classroom. For a student to be a well-respected citizen, they must be able to balance many different areas of life. They must exemplify outstanding characteristics both as a student and as a citizen of the community.

The student must be able to handle many different aspects of student life while maintaining excellence in the classroom. This award is designed to nominate and select
students who promote and take pride in their individual school and in themselves.
 

December 2021 

AaronTorres

Bear Path School- Aaron Torres 
Aaron was chosen by his teachers because he embodies the Bear Path Pledge. He is kind, hardworking, and loves to persevere through challenges, especially in math. Aaron has lots of friends and loves to play freeze tag. When asked the secret of his success, he replied simply, " Look on the bright side. Be good and always do your best."

Church Street School- Oluwadare Olufewo (Dare)
Dare epitomizes our school rules of being positive, respectful, and responsible.  He is an Eagle Executive and is an incredible role model for all!  He is ALWAYS doing his best.  Dare values his education and works hard to ensure his success, often going above and beyond what is asked of him.  He has a stick to it attitude, that no matter how challenging a task is, he never gives up!  After talking with some of his classmates, this is what they had to say about Dare.  He is an awesome friend who is very caring.  He helps us with our work that we don't understand.  Dare is always there for us.  If we are upset, he knows just the right thing to say to make us feel better.  We are all very proud of Dare and honored that he represents CSS as the superintendent student of the month for fourth grade! 

   
SWagner Dunbar Hill School- Stephen Wagner

Stephen is generous, kind, and radiates positive energy. He arrives to school each day with a smile and positive attitude. He is always eager to help his classmates, peers, and other adults in the building. He acts as a role model for all Dunbar Hill students. He is the epitome of Jaguar PRIDE. He also puts forth his best effort into any and all tasks he is given.

Helen Street School- Alexander Grimes
Alex has been the student I have seen with the most inner drive to succeed academically this year.  I can always count on Alex to do more than is expected and his quiet leadership serves as a model for the other students.  

Whatever endeavor Alex decides to choose, his intelligence, self-motivation, high expectations and  mental discipline will be why he succeeds.

Ridge Hill School- Yassmine Karim
Yassmine is a hard working, self-motivated student. She comes to school each day with a positive attitude and is always ready to learn. She gives her best effort on all assignments and takes pride in her work. Her excitement about learning is contagious. Yassmine is respectful to adults and her peers.
She is cooperative and works well with everyone. She never hesitates to help others when she can. Yassmine is a role model in 4th grade and consistently demonstrates our school wide expectations of safety, responsibility and respect

Shepherd Glen School- Liangeliz Pizarro
Liangeliz is a kind-hearted student who always is willing to help others. She is the first one to welcome a new student and is always there when a classmate needs support.  Liangeliz has worked hard this year on her academics and has made great strides. 

We are super-proud of Liangeliz and the progress that she has made so far this year. We look forward to all of the wonderful moments in her future.

   
Finnleigh Hosgood

Spring Glen School- Finnleigh Hosgood
Every day Finnleigh puts in her best effort throughout the entirety of the school day. I can always count on Finnleigh to participate during our lessons and always tries her best when working with me, with a partner, or independently. In addition, Finnleigh is extremely kind and always goes out of her way to her teachers and any of her classmates in need. Her eagerness to learn and excitement for coming to school every day is infectious to everyone around her. Finnleigh is an absolute joy to have in my class and a true role model for others. We are proud of all the progress she has made this year in reading, math, and writing and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as the year continues. Keep up the amazing work Finnleigh!

West Woods School- Vanessa Ullrich Caines
Vanessa is the perfect example of what a Superintendent Student of the Month should be.  She is a wonderful student who enjoys all aspects of school life.  She is tenacious, curious, and cares about her academics.  She is a kind and empathetic person.  She always puts others first and helps her classmates whenever they ask.  She has a love for animals and plans on becoming a veterinarian in her future.  We are fortunate to have Vanessa as a student at West Woods School.  Her teachers report it has been their pleasure to share in all her school successes throughout the year.  Well done Vanessa! 

   
No picture Hamden Collaborative Learning Center- Kevyn Rizo

Kevyn has a great work attitude, puts full effort in and is a polite and friendly student. He seems to have a positive word for the students around him. Always respectful and kind to peers.  He is responsible about his technology use and values his education above all else.

Kevyn is the current custodial assistant for HCLC and is doing fantastic work his first days on the job.

   
PDelgado Hamden High School- Perjah Delgado, Grade 9
9th grader Perjah Delgado is the perfect combination of talent and service. She has burst into freshman year at Hamden High School scoring A’s in all honors classes. She continues her tour de force studying visual arts at ACES Educational Center for the Arts. Perjah uses her creativity not only for expression and beauty, but also for purpose. In September, Perjah participated in HeArts for Justice, a nonprofit organization addressing social justice through art. As a freshman, she is a member of both our band and marching band. Also, she has joined our select jazz orchestra and has performed as a soloist at one of our concerts. She is bold, proud and mature in her music. Her voice is powerful, passionate and moving. She is committed to growing with her music and possesses the true heart of a Hamden Dragon.

Hamden High School-Caroline Ennis, Grade 12
As a senior student-athlete, Caroline Ennis is a dedicated leader, high honor student, and committed community member to the Hamden Dragons. Caroline collaborates with students and staff to ignite change and find positive ways to encourage success. Her efforts continue to positively influence the school community and she is a true leader both in and out of the classroom. In the classroom, Caroline is articulate as she participates in class discussion bringing both depth and perspective to a variety of topics. Her most recent essay brilliantly connects the psychology behind social media shaming to the Salem Witch Trials and The Crucible. Caroline is a member of the National Honor Society and is a student ambassador for the newly formed “Dragons United” student group. In addition to her school community commitments, she is a tri-athlete and serves as captain of the cross country, basketball and track teams. Caroline recently committed to playing soccer at the University of New Haven where she will study exercise science. Hamden High School takes pride in recognizing such a dynamic individual for her leadership, academic achievements and community service.

Hamden Middle School- Leah Goubourn, Grade 7, Team Stanton

Leah Goubourn joined the Hamden Middle School community this year, and we could not be more delighted. She is a well-rounded individual, and there are many reasons to recognize and celebrate her. Leah is a determined student. She has high expectations and goals focused on her family, studies, church and community involvement. All of her teachers speak highly of her contributions to the classroom and the team. Leah is a kind person. She consistently demonstrates respect for others and her school community. She is incredibly responsible and dependable, and she has a tremendous sense of humor. Leah’s calming demeanor and upbeat personality are engaging characteristics; others gravitate toward her. Team Stanton is proud to nominate Leah for this prestigious award; she is extremely deserving.

Evan Parker, Grade 7, Team Tremper
Evan is an absolute pleasure to have in health class and is truly a model student. He is a polite, conscientious worker. He loves to collaborate with his fellow classmates. When Evan was asked, “Why do you think the Health Team nominated you for this award?” He quickly responded, “Because I am kind to everyone.” So true! Evan is the middle child of a big family, and he has learned a lot from his brothers and sisters. Outside of school, Evan is a “foodie.” While he likes to try new things, his favorite meal is delicious pizza. The Health Team is proud to honor Evan. The world needs more kindness!

TWashington

Tisheera Washington, Grade 8, Team Morello
Tisheera is a modest individual; she was pleasantly surprised when she was notified she earned the honor of HPS Student of the Month. She puts forth outstanding effort in class, and her teachers admire her work ethic. She always uses her time wisely, listens to suggestions and makes improvements to her work. Tisheera is a quiet person, but her actions speak loudly. Her teachers are grateful to work with her each day. The Health Team is proud to recognize Tisheera for her outstanding contributions to HMS.
