SCASA Awards 20-21

Congratulations to this year's Southern Connecticut Superintendent's Association award winners. This award recognizes students’ accomplishments based on academic, extra-curricular, and community service criteria. What a great group nominated this year!

Bear Path School
Marc Imperati

Bear Path is proud to recognize Marc Imperati for this year's SCASA Award. In a year of challenges and changes, Marc has consistently demonstrated that he is conscientious, engaged, and takes pride in his work.  He comes into school ready to learn every day.

No matter the subject or the topic, Marc is focused, asking questions, and sharing his thoughts. He seeks opportunities to improve and doesn't hesitate to accept feedback from his teachers. Marc is a kind, caring, and respectful young man. His effort and his behavior make him a role model for his peers.


Church Street School

Ryan Marroquin-Florian

Ryan exemplifies the well rounded sixth grade student. Ryan puts forth such a high level of effort in all subjects and is always ready to share his expertise with others around him. Ryan finds all of his subjects interesting and is always ready to learn more. When the work gets challenging, Ryan only works harder. He maintains high standards for himself and it is simply not in his nature to give up on anything.

Ryan is such a role model to his peers in the classroom. He can be counted on to offer support to his classmates without having to be asked. He offers assistance and support to his classmates without expecting anything in return. It is heartwarming to see Ryan support with translation services to his classmates when needed
and, because of this, he makes others around him feel supported and included. Most importantly, Ryan has shown unwavering patience as we have all navigated through uncertain times and often unpredictable challenges.


Hamden High School

Julia DelGrego

Julia is an intelligent, outgoing, compassionate and kind young woman. She has contributed greatly to the landscape of Hamden High School as an accomplished scholar, motivating leader, and energetic member of our student body.  She is a valuable member of our DECA program and won several awards in state competitions. She is a four-year member of the varsity field hockey and gymnastics teams, ascending to Captain of both. She was selected as a Student Ambassador and is a member of the Interact Club.  

Our Hamden High School Nursery School teacher states,  “caring, compassionate, and dedicated are the first words that come to my mind when I think about Julia. She is self-motivated and sets high standards for herself. Whether she is working with her peers or the nursery school children, Julia is always positive. She approaches all that she does with initiative and a smile. She demonstrates a love of learning and commitment to teaching and working with the nursery school children.” Julia has a sincere desire to help others and dedicates countless hours as President of the HHS Unified Friends Club.  She has earned the respect of her teachers and fellow classmates for her kindness, dedication, and positive attitude. These qualities will serve her well as she pursues a career in education.

Kristian Lozada

Kristian is a natural leader who is well respected by both his peers and faculty.  He is an exceptionally talented and thoughtful leader.  Kristian is a gifted and outstanding participant in both the music program and Mainstage Ensemble.  Our theatre teacher states, “In the few years that I have had the opportunity to work with Kristian, I have witnessed him teach himself how to play the piano and then accompany his peers in musical rehearsal. Kristian has a very sunny and positive disposition.  E

Even in difficult circumstances he smiles through the struggle. He is deeply thoughtful and a people person.  He is devoted to his family and has gone out of his way to help his friends on occasions too numerous to mention.  He has never let me down.  Ever.”   Kristian has devoted many hours giving back to his community by volunteering for the CT FoodBank, Toys for Tots and the Down Syndrome Association of CT.  He simultaneously exhibits both a sense of humor and a sense of purpose.  Kristian’s sense of empathy and devotion are characteristics that make him successful in all that he pursues.

Faith Diaba

Faith consistently displays high academic achievement in all her classes and is constantly striving to do her best. She is a hardworking student with a wonderful attitude in the classroom. In addition to her academic achievements, Faith is an active member of the Hamden Middle School community.

She is a member of the volleyball team. Faith also loves art and theater. She uses her musical talents as a “soprano” in the school chorus and in her piano recitals. Outside of school, Faith takes part in a book club and an afterschool Girl’s Mentoring Group. 

Faith and her family are proud that in addition to her extra-curricular activities, she has consistently earned academic high honors. Faith’s hard work, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for education are evident in her daily efforts. We truly believe that Faith is well deserving of this accolade.

Harper Irwin

Harper is involved in a variety of activities both at Hamden Middle School and in the community. Harper has been engaged in a variety of projects benefiting our community.    These projects include helping the environment by volunteering with the Clean & Green Commission and Hamden Land Trust. Harper has also volunteered with the IRIS: Run for Refugees and United Way Food Bank.

In the classroom, Harper is a leader among her peers. She adds insightful knowledge to class discussion throughout all her classes. She is an active member of the National Junior Honor Society. Harper is also involved in the Jazz Band and Newspaper Club. Finally, Harper helped create a book club at HMS. Harper is not only involved in various extracurricular activities, but has also consistently maintained high honors at Hamden Middle School. It is a great honor to nominate Harper for the SCASA Award.
