The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today announced that Hamden Middle School is one of 8 schools in Connecticut to be named as a "No Place for Hate" school! Hamden Middle School’s designation as a "No Place for Hate" institution recognizes the school’s commitment to taking a stand against all forms of hate and creating an inclusive school community. Read ADL's Press Release and view ADL's National 2020-2021 NPFH Recognition Video. We couldn't be prouder of our HMS community and their efforts!
COVID-19 has changed life for all of us, but children, especially those in their teens, may be experiencing particularly great stresses at this time. Feelings of isolation, loss, uncertainty and fear may be heightened. The CT Department of Public Health has issued a brief list of recommendations and supports to help our youth. Please take a few moments to read Youth Suicide Prevention - Public Health Alert and Call to Action.
Please join us in reaching out to Hamden’s state legislators, asking them to ensure that the state funding for Hamden Public Schools is not reduced.
Here's the story: For years, our state government has underfunded Hamden’s allocation of Education Cost Sharing (ECS) funds by more than $10 million per year. In addition to lower than proportionate ECS funding, there it is possible that CT's Alliance grant program, which provides millions of dollars to our district, might be reduced.
Especially now, we need the State of CT to provide us our fair share of funding and maintain grant support. Please send an email or call Hamden’s state legislators and let them know appropriate funding for Hamden through ECS matters, and that we can't afford a reduction in Alliance grant funds. We need to protect and even increase the state funding for our public schools.
Below is contact information for Hamden's state representatives. Every call and every email matters. Thank you for your help.

The Coronavirus crisis has forced every one of us to change the way we do things - changes to almost every aspect of our lives.
With schools closed and at-home learning through Google Classroom becoming "school," we knew that changes to how we taught and evaluated student performance had to be explored. At the high school level in particular, grades affect credit needed to meet state graduation requirements and become part of students' permanent records that are used for future work and higher education applications.
Based on guidance from State of Connecticut and local input, Hamden Public Schools has developed high school grading procedures for this period of distance learning that take into consideration students' physical and emotional well being as well as academic growth and progress.
