Bus Routes/Transportation

What new precautions are in being implemented to allow my child to ride the bus to school safely?

First Student has created the Start Safe program, which includes many protocols and procedures to increase transportation safety during the pandemic. Besides requiring mask wearing and implementing social distancing on the bus, First Student has put in place many cleaning and sanitizing measures, and is working with staff to ensure school transportation is conducted with minimal risk.  Read more on the First Student Website, and read tips for your child in the Start Safe Parent Toolkit.

Who is eligible for bus transportation to and from school?

Hamden Public Schools follows the guidelines of the Connecticut State Department of Education which requires transportation be provided to any school age resident attending a Hamden public, private or parochial school who resides an unreasonable distance from school. Transportation is provided at the following levels:

  • Elementary school students (including Kindergarten) – who live more than 1 mile from school

  • Middle school students – who live more than 1.5 miles from school

  • High school students – who live more than 2 miles from school

*Stop times are approximate, therefore, students should be at the stop 10 minutes before the posted times to avoid missing the bus.  Bus stops locations and times are subject to change due to changing enrollment, weather and traffic conditions.
