HPS Green Initiatives
Hamden Public Schools tries to act in a way that is environmentally conscious and has thus implemented several initiatives to help preserve our environment and promote " going green." We will continue to look for more ways to save energy and our environment as we move ahead.

Energy Conservation Program: Cenergistics

Hamden has partnered with an energy conservation program to help our schools and staff minimize our use of electricity, gas and other commodities, helping the environment and our budget. Find out more about our energy-conservation collaboration with Cenergistics.

Green Cleaning

Through the GREEN CLEANING PROGRAM IN SCHOOLS (CT PUBLIC ACT 09-81), the State of Connecticut requires that each local and regional board of education implement a green cleaning program for all school buildings and facilities in its district. Hamden Public Schools is committed to the implementation of this law by providing the staff and, upon request, the parents and guardians of each child enrolled in each school with a written statement of the school district’s green cleaning program as well as making it available on its website annually.

Hamden High School Fuel Cell

Hamden High School's fuel cell provides heating and electricity for much of HHS (and saves the town money each year)! It now lives in this container behind Hamden High. The fuel cell is now showing its school spirit- its colors and purpose are something of which we can all be proud!

Radon Testing

According to Connecticut General Statute Sec. 10- 220(d), all public schools must inspect and evaluate the indoor air quality in school buildings every five years. This required inspection and re-evaluation of indoor air quality including evaluation of radon gas.
