Google Account: Login Instructions

A student's login username follows this format: student's last name, first initial, year of high school graduation @ hamden.org.
(Example: 7th grader Max Bailey: baileym28@hamden.org)

Student passwords are their 8-digit student ID number.

Use your username and password to log into Google Classroom.

Please note that although the username LOOKS like an email address, it is not - there is no email account associated with it and you cannot send or receive email messages through this address.

Tech Troubleshooting: 3 Step Process

Follow the following three steps in order to troubleshoot & resolve your tech issues:

Step 1: Shut It Down

Regardless of the tech issue, the very first step is to completely shut down and/or turn off the device, and then restart. Sounds simple, but it works.

2 Quick & Easy Ways to Properly Shut Down Your Chromebook:

1) From the Keyboard: Press the on the top right corner of the keyboard. Then, select “Power Off” or “Shut Down.”
2) From the Desktop: Click on on the bottom right of your screen. Select at the top of the menu.

Once your machine is off, count to ten. Then restart your machine. Still an issue? Go to Step Two.

Note: closing the screen of the device and/or selecting "Sign Out" does NOT shut down the machine. For best performance, students should be shutting down their device each night.

Step 2: Address the Issue

Chromebook Won't Turn On

This happens from time to time! Be patient, and try these two tips:

Tip 1
1) Unplug the device from the wall socket;
2) Hold down the power button on the top right corner of the keyboard for 10 seconds;
3) Plug the device back into the wall.

Tip 2
1) Plug your charger into the wall socket, and charge your Chromebook from the LEFT SIDE of the device;

2) Wait a few seconds;
3) Hold down the power button on the top right corner of the keyboard for 5-10 seconds. Release the button. Count to ten.

If the device does not start up, repeat the steps if necessary.

Zoom: Meeting is for "Authorized Attendees Only"

Some teachers/classes require students to sign in to Zoom using their hamden.org Google Accounts in order to participate in the Zoom meeting. If you receive a message stating "This meeting is for authorized attendees only," Sign In to Join!

Note: Username and password not being accepted when signing into Zoom? Double check and make sure that you are using your correct hamden.org username and your 8-digit student ID as the password.

Microphone/Audio Not Working

Shut Down your Device (See STEP ONE above). Microphone/Audio still an issue? See below:

Note: If you are using headphones to tune into your Zoom classes--and you are finding that your teacher cannot hear you-- please check to make sure that your headphones have a microphone. The school issued earbuds do not have a built in mic, and therefore cannot be used to participate in Zoom classes.
