The Hamden Public Schools’ Board of Education has created a new committee to concentrate on enhancing and supporting equity through our public schools. The Equity Committee will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 28th at 6:30 pm, at Hamden Public Schools Central Office, 60 Putnam Avenue.

While equity has always been part of our mission as a public school system, the volume of equity-specific initiatives, actions, and discussions has increased significantly in recent years. The establishment of a committee focused on equity will allow us to pursue this goal in a more targeted way. This committee also aims to be a formal channel to communicate concrete efforts and outcomes publicly and regularly.

The Equity Committee will serve as a vehicle to collect input from the community. The BOE recognizes the rich discussions and conversations about equity that are already taking place within our school system, our community, and our nation. The public is encouraged to participate by attending the meetings of this committee to share their views and ideas so we can continue to expand our understandings, have robust conversations, and create enhanced structures and processes to support equity in Hamden schools.
