Libraries Inspire!

The Bear Path library media center is a place where curiosity and problem solving is encouraged. Located in the south wing of the school, it is the focal point for pleasure reading, information seeking, knowledge building, and thinking.  Research shows school libraries support student learning and higher academic achievement when staffed by qualified library teachers.  At Bear Path, the library media center is an important part of a student’s education.

Welcome to the Bear Path Library Media Center!

Based on the Connecticut Content Standards for Information Literacy, the Hamden K-6 elementary media curriculum outlines the instructional goals of the Library Media Department, including student research and technology skills.

Bear Path School Media Center uses an online catalog called Destiny. Students and staff may search for books from school and home.

Students go with their classes to the media center once per week for instruction in essential information literacy and research skills. Students in Kindergarten and First grades may check 1 book out per week. Students from Second grade to Sixth grade may check out 2 books per week. The media center is open for book exchange in the morning before classes begin.

The Media Center has over 12, 000 books on different subjects, topics, genres, etc. for pleasure reading and research. One of our goals is to encourage all students to love reading and to become life long learners!
