HPS 2020-21 School Year Information and Updates

March 15, 2021

Dear Hamden Families,

As our community and surrounding areas are experiencing lower positivity and spread rates and significantly lower hospitalizations, CDC and DPH guidelines are now allowing us to consider a higher level of in-school programming and updated social distancing standards, while still calling for continuing strategies to mitigate COVID-19 spread, such as mask wearing, hand sanitizing, outside mask breaks, and increased ventilation.

More good news on the fight against Covid-19, last Saturday we held a closed vaccination clinic for our Hamden educators at Hamden High School. I want to again thank Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center for partnering with our district to provide this opportunity to vaccinate over 400 educators. Additionally, so many worked behind the scenes to help prepare for this clinic and ensure its smooth operation. In particular, Director of Human Resources Gary Highsmith, Principal Dan Levy and our school nurses all played critical roles in the day’s success.

With the continuing good news of increased vaccinations and decreased infection rates, we are planning to implement a five-day a week in-person program for all students when we get back from April break (current dismissal times will remain in place). Details are now being discussed by various committees regarding the exact date at which this will occur and ensuring the steps we take are consistent with the health and safety first approach we’ve taken since March 12, 2020, our last day of full in-school instruction.

If you plan on changing your child’s/children’s learning environment, please contact your school if you will be choosing to send your child(ren) back or to have your child(ren) learn remotely. To effectively plan, it will be important to have as much accurate information from you as possible. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

I will continue to update you as our plans evolve. Thank you for your support and your efforts to keep our community safe from the impacts of COVID-19. In the meantime, please continue your good work in following all the protocols necessary to continue this downward trend in positivity and spread rates, and continue self-monitoring daily.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jody Ian Goeler
