Welcome and thank you for visiting the Dunbar School web-page. The Dunbar Hill student community of approximately 330 students in grades K through 6 is made up of children from diverse economic, cultural and racial backgrounds. It is with that quality that we pride ourselves in celebrating the diversity within our community.
Dunbar Hill is committed to excellence in all facets of education. Our belief is that how children learn is as important as what they learn: process and content go hand in hand. In addition, to be academically and socially successful, we believe children need to develop a set of social skills: cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control. Our focus is on building a strong foundation of these skills to assist in student academic and social achievement. The staff at Dunbar Hill is committed to the belief that all students can learn and succeed in a productive, orderly, safe and challenging learning environment. Knowing the children we teach–individually, culturally, and developmentally–is as important as knowing the content we teach.
Close cooperation between students, staff, parents and the community is the key in assisting students to reach their highest potential while creating a community of learners. Getting to know the families of the children we teach and working with them as partners is essential to the children's education. The best results for our children occur when we work together, developing happy, imaginative and caring individuals. To help us achieve our goals, we encourage you to involve yourself in our children’s ongoing educational development.
If you have any questions or need information not found on the website, we encourage you to call (203) 407-2025.
Sincerely,
Mr. Stephen Bergin Last revised 3/24/10
